Using templates, stencils and a marking pen to

draw designs on solid colored fabric, students

will learn to create a beautiful sashiko placemat

or table runner. Historical samples of sashiko

will be shown during class.

Supplies:

 $5.00 payable to the teacher at time of class

for stencil and design transfers.

Kit available for $18 payable to the teacher ,

Supply list for Sashiko Placemat (if not buying the kit)

  • 1/2 - 1 yard of solid color cotton or cotton-linen                                                  blend fabric depending on the size you wish your                                                    table mat/ runner to be.  (Recommendations:  Navy,                                              Indigo, Chocolate, Gold, Brick Red).
  • 1 - 2 skeins of contrasting Sashiko thread
  • Sashiko needles
  • Scissors for cutting fabric and thread
  • Ruler
  • Water soluable or iron-off marking pen (Clover 517 recommended)
