A Little Bit About Us
We are committed to making quilts to provide comfort and warmth to those in need. Through the years and the tremendous leadership and dedicated volunteers like you, we have made hundreds of quilts which we donate to various organizations and agencies such as oncology units at hospitals, breast cancers treatment centers, Habitat for Humanity, and hospice. We make a large annual donation of 66 quilts to the Royal Family Kids Camp, which provides a quality week-long camp for foster children in the Puget Sound area. We have also donated dozens of quilts to non-profit organizations to use as raffle quilts to raise funds for their use. Community Service has a small budget to purchase those supplies that are not donated by Guild members. Guild members generally donate fabrics and batting. The Committee puts together kits to sew, as well as tops to bind. Joyful Quilters generally do not meet in the summer. Members are encouraged to make and donate quilts on their own.
How To Participate
Attend one of the Community Service days. Activities vary but there is always fun to be had.
2. Make a quilt from start to finish to donate.
3. Create kits, sew blocks, sew borders, quilt a sandwich or sew on binding. There's always a task for you.
4. Longarm quilters needed. Let Judy Gage know if you're available to help with the quilting tasks.
5. Donate supplies: cotton fabric appropriate for children; thread-Star Cotton in ecru or light grey; batting -Warm & Natural, Warm & White, Warm Blend, Soft & White; rotary cutters and blades; cutting mats; sewing machine needles size 12 or 14
Guidelines for quilt sizes:
Child quilt: 42-44" x 54 - 72"
Twin quilts: 72" x 84"
Backs should be 3" larger than the quilt top; they can be pieces. Binding can be hand or machine done. Binding should be 2 1/2" wide.
